Summary of Position: The Sonographer, or ultrasound technologist, is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound exams in AIUM certified OB/GYN office practice setting. The sonographer is expected to demonstrate independent judgement in performing ultrasounds of female reproductive anatomy and fetal anatomy. Also assists physicians in various ultrasound guided procedures. The sonographer uses observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment management of the patient. This includes detailed reporting and notifying doctors of ultrasound findings in a clear and concise manner.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Use sonographic equipment to evaluate female reproductive anatomy and fetal anatomy.
- Assist physicians in ultrasound guided procedures including, but not limited to, saline infused, hystersonograms and IUD placement and removal.
- Clear and concise communication with not only the referring but also the reading physicians.
- Sends acquired images to Trice and documents findings by creating a preliminary report.
- Prepare the exam room for ultrasounds and ensure all equipment is sterilized between appointments.
- Maintain sonography equipment.
- Schedule preparation, patient history research and charting are completed for each day.
- Demonstrates independent judgment in performing two dimensional ultrasonic recordings of female reproductive anatomy and fetal structures.·
- Monitors stock of supplies in imagining rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reordering, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
- Reports incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisor as soon as possible
- May need to travel to our Hoffman Estates location
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited diagnostic sonography program with either a certificate or Associate’s/Bachelor’s Degree.
- ARDMS OBGYN board certification is required
- Maintenance of board certification through continuing education and accrual of CMEs.
- Sonographer must be experienced in OB/GYN and MFM ultrasound, preferably 1-3 years.
- Technological experience using Trice and other reporting systems.
- Experience with obtaining patient history, explaining procedures and facilitating positive patient experiences.
- Superior customer service, along with a high level of discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Self-motivated and able to work as a team player.
