Job Summary:
Responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac or vascular ultrasound procedures, providing cardiologists with precise measurements and accurate images of cardiac structures. This role is crucial for enabling physicians to deliver accurate diagnoses and provide life-saving treatment interventions. The technologist also assists physicians during complex procedures, helping to reduce potential procedural risks in various settings, including the OR, Hybrid lab, Cath lab, and CAD, covering procedures such as TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate correct technique, efficiency, and judgment in performing advanced cardiac and/or peripheral vascular procedures.
- Perform adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures, including TEE and stress echo, as well as peripheral vascular procedures like arterials, renals, and transcranial Doppler.
- Review pertinent patient data and reports before procedures.
- Operate equipment necessary for all required procedures to obtain optimal diagnostic recordings and utilize ancillary devices like selected transducers and digital networking systems.
- Exercise appropriate judgment in notifying the reading physician of abnormal results and evaluating and reporting findings to the cardiologist.
- Assist physicians with studies and aid them during complex procedures to decrease potential procedural risks.
- Maintain proper documentation of data according to lab, departmental, and hospital policy.
- Document all procedures accurately in the departmental tracking process.
- Efficiently process charging and other necessary data.
- Consistently and accurately document in the patient chart.
- Collaborate in maintaining departmental efficiency and anticipate needs in equipment and supplies.
- Use resources wisely to assist in cost containment and schedule patients efficiently.
- Support unit and hospital goals through QA and educational activities.
- Maintain current competency and registry (ARDMS or CCI) in the two specialty practices.
- Demonstrate initiative in personal and professional development and comply with mandatory unit and hospital education standards.
- Participate in departmental QA and National Accreditation processes.
- Modify behavior and performance to meet changing hospital and departmental goals.
- Comply with departmental and hospital policies, maintain a clean environment, and practice infection control.
- Promote patient, visitor, and personnel safety while maintaining confidentiality.
- Collaborate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
- Make independent judgments from diversified alternatives subject to general review in final stages only.
- Coordinate activities of others and lead peers in the same work performed.
- Work directly with patients, internal customers, and other healthcare professionals and staff.
- Frequently interact with individuals at the Director level or above.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Six (6) months of related experience.
- Ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare staff regarding Cardiac Ultrasound results.
- Ability to serve in on-call rotation after regular business hours.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Required Education:
- High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Education:
- Graduate of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or Cardiac Ultrasound certification program.
Required Certification & Licensure:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
- OR
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- BLS.
