Job Summary
Responsible for diagnostic cardiac or vascular ultrasound that provides cardiologists with measurements and accurate images of cardiac structures to enable precise diagnosis. Immediate feedback with preliminary reports of critical results to nurses and physicians is crucial for life-saving treatment interventions. Assist physicians with studies and aid in complex procedures to minimize potential procedural risks, including procedures in the OR, Hybrid lab, Cath lab, and CAD, such as TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrate correct technique, efficiency, and judgment in performing advanced cardiac and/or peripheral vascular procedures.
- Perform adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures, including TEE and stress echo, and/or peripheral vascular procedures like arterials, renals, and transcranial Doppler.
- Review pertinent patient data and reports before procedures.
- Operate equipment to perform required procedures and obtain optimal diagnostic recordings; utilize ancillary devices such as selected transducers and digital networking systems.
- Exercise appropriate judgment in notifying physicians of abnormal results and reporting findings to cardiologists.
- Assist physicians with studies and aid in complex procedures to minimize procedural risks, including TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
- Maintain proper documentation of data according to lab, departmental, and hospital policies.
- Document all procedures accurately in departmental tracking processes.
- Document accurately and efficiently all procedural data necessary.
- Process charging and other necessary data efficiently and accurately.
- Document consistently and accurately in patient charts.
- Collaborate in maintaining departmental efficiency.
- Anticipate needs in equipment and supplies.
- Use resources wisely to assist in cost containment.
- Schedule patients efficiently.
- Support unit/hospital goals through QA and educational activities.
- Maintain current competency and registry (ARDMS or CCI) in two specialty practices.
- Demonstrate initiative in personal/professional development.
- Maintain compliance with mandatory unit/hospital education standards.
- Participate in departmental QA processes and National Accreditation processes.
- Modify behavior/performance to meet changing hospital/departmental goals.
- Comply with departmental and hospital policies.
- Maintain a clean environment.

Required Skills & Experience
- Six (6) months of related experience.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to utilize critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare staff regarding Cardiac Ultrasound results.
- Ability to serve in on-call rotation after regular business hours.
Required Education
- High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Education
- Graduate of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or Cardiac Ultrasound certification program.
Required Certification & Licensure
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
