Job Summary
Responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac or vascular ultrasounds that provide cardiologists with precise measurements and accurate images of cardiac structures. This enables physicians to make accurate diagnoses. Immediate feedback through preliminary reports of critical results to nurses and physicians is crucial for life-saving treatment interventions. The role involves assisting physicians with studies and aiding them in complex procedures to minimize potential procedural risks, including those in the OR, Hybrid lab, Cath lab, and CAD, such as TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrate correct technique, efficiency, and judgment in advanced cardiac and/or peripheral vascular procedures.
- Perform adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures, including TEE and stress echo, and/or peripheral vascular procedures such as arterials, renals, and transcranial Doppler.
- Review pertinent patient data and reports prior to procedures.
- Operate equipment necessary for optimal diagnostic recording and utilize ancillary devices like selected transducers and digital networking systems.
- Exercise appropriate judgment in notifying reading physicians of abnormal results and evaluate and report findings to cardiologists.
- Assist physicians with complex procedures to mitigate potential procedural risks in various labs and procedures.
- Maintain proper documentation of data according to lab, departmental, and hospital policies.
- Document all procedures accurately in the departmental tracking process and patient charts.
- Efficiently process charging and other necessary data.
- Collaborate in maintaining departmental efficiency, anticipate equipment and supply needs, and use resources wisely for cost containment.
- Schedule patients efficiently and support unit/hospital goals through QA and educational activities.
- Maintain current competency and registry (ARDMS or CCI) in two specialty practices.
- Demonstrate initiative in personal and professional development and comply with mandatory education standards.
- Participate in departmental QA and National Accreditation processes, and adapt to changing hospital/departmental goals.
- Comply with departmental and hospital policies, maintain a clean environment, practice infection control, and promote safety for patients, visitors, and personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality for patients, employees, physicians, and corporate information.
- Collaborate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
- Exercise independent judgment in decision-making and coordinate activities of others without direct supervision.
- Lead others in the same work performed and work directly with patients and/or customers.
- Interact with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face and frequently work with individuals at the Director level or above.
Required Skills & Experience
- Six (6) months of related experience.
- Ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare staff regarding Cardiac Ultrasound results.
- Ability to serve in on-call rotation after regular business hours.
Required Education
- High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Education
- Graduate of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or Cardiac Ultrasound certification program.
Required Certification & Licensure
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- OR
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- BLS certification.
