Position description
As an Ultrasound Sonographer, you will utilize specialized equipment to generate images of the inside of the human body for diagnostic purposes. Primary duties include setting up the ultrasound equipment, carrying out ultrasound tests and producing prints of ultrasound images.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide variety of routine and complex ultrasound procedures.
- Perform ultrasound imaging such as pelvic, abdominal, small parts and routine vascular exams
- May perform more complex imaging, e.g., deep doppler, biopsies, musculoskeletal ultrasound.
- Explains the diagnostic procedure to patients and responds to related patient questions following established protocols
- Identifies and documents any unexpected results that may indicate the need for further testing or immediate medical attention
- Follows study specific scanning protocols with required documentation
- Operates ultrasound equipment and assists patients with ambulation during procedures to ensure accurate data collection and to minimize patient exposure to high-amplitude sound waves
- Assesses the need to adapt the planned procedures to achieve optimal results and confers with medical personnel
- Ability to use independent judgement to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
- Completes documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy or procedure including proper image management and accurate documentation in electronic medical records
- Document patient information and ultrasound findings accurately in electronic health records.
- Operate and maintain portable ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is clean and functioning properly.
- Troubleshoot any technical issues with the equipment and report concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Work a flexible schedule within the clinic or department hours based on clinical demand or need.
Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited ultrasonography program and/or registered by the American Registray of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
- Two (2) years of clinical experience
- Registered by the American Registray of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) in a minimum of two concentrations: Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast, Pediatric Sonography or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
- RVT credential within 30 months of hire, if not already acquired, mor Minimum Qualifications Substitute (MQS) if in OB/GYN.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of patient care notes

- Prior Epic experience – Preferred
