Position Summary
The Echocardiographer trainee functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician and staff sonographer, serves as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Trains to perform a variety of duties in performing ultrasound imaging. Performs initial interpretation and evaluation of procedure. Maintains standards of quality. Assists the cardiac sonographers in performing cardiac studies or interventional procedures. Operates ultrasound equipment, prepares scanning room, equipment, supplies and medications. Provides patient services using imaging modalities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- The applicant must have one of the following: a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science, cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, surgical technology, occupational/physical therapy, or nursing.
- Upon completion of one year full-time or full-time equivalent work experience in cardiac ultrasound, with a minimum of 600 cardiac ultrasound studies* in their career, which is defined as work experience and/or clinical experience gained during a formal educational program.
