We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Cardiac Sonographer to join our team. In this role, you will provide professional, safe, and high-quality ultrasound imaging care to patients across all populations. You will use your advanced knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation to optimize image quality and ensure accurate, timely results that support excellent patient outcomes.
Cardiac Sonographers are responsible for performing and interpreting a variety of cardiac ultrasound exams, adapting procedures for each patient’s unique anatomy and condition, and communicating critical findings to the healthcare team to expedite care.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain patient history and perform pre-procedure assessments to verify that the ordered exam aligns with clinical indications.
- Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort, understanding, and cooperation.
- Perform a variety of cardiac ultrasound procedures, including:
- Echocardiograms
- Stress echocardiograms (treadmill, Dobutamine, bicycle ergonometry)
- Transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), assisting physicians during image acquisition and ensuring proper probe cleaning and disinfection.
- Identify and evaluate anatomical and physiological findings consistent with various disease processes, adjusting protocols as necessary.
- Demonstrate proficiency in obtaining high-quality echocardiographic images and hemodynamic data.
- Communicate and document critical findings promptly to the interpreting physician.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement (QI) activities and provide constructive peer feedback.
- Support efficient patient flow and assist with training sonographer students, residents, and fellows.
- Administer and document ultrasound enhancing agents (UEA), bubble studies, and IV procedures when indicated.
- Maintain and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment, documenting service issues and notifying leadership as needed.
- Ensure cleanliness and adequate supply levels in assigned areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
Education and Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
- Graduate of an accredited program in Cardiac Ultrasound/Echocardiography
OR
- Graduate of a Diploma, Associate, or Bachelor’s program in a Health Science field (e.g., Cardiovascular Technology, Ultrasound, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Nursing)
- Training or certification in IV and UEA contrast administration
Licensure and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA), required upon hire
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or in progress, must be credentialed within 180 days
OR
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or in progress, must be credentialed within 180 days
Knowledge and Skills
- Maintain continuing medical education (CME) requirements.
- Demonstrate ability to train others in areas of competency.
- Basic computer proficiency required.
