Sonographer (Ultrasound Tech) Job Description
Sonographer I- Non Exempt
Position Purpose: Work directly with patients and use sonographic equipment to record images.
Reports Directly To: Clinic Manager
Job Overview: Position is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and for performing and communicating results of the diagnostic examinations using sonography. The sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic area, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures and quality assessments (QA).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Performs clinical assessment and all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by physician such as, but not limited to, upper extremity vein mapping, lower extremity vein mapping, bilateral venous reflux ultrasound, arterial duplex, AAA’s, carotid ultrasound, and DVT rule outs.
- Perform PVR’s ABI, TCOM’s
- Performs preliminary, final reports and communicates findings to the appropriate physician according to established procedures.
- Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.
- Cleans ultrasound equipment daily.
- Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
- Update reports in EHROther duties as assigned.
Skills: Ability to work well with a team, in a fast-paced outpatient office based medical practice. Must have excellent communication skills and enjoy interacting with patients.
Education: Must possess a current and valid American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification and Credentialed Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
Qualifications:
- 2 years’ experience in diagnostic medical sonography or vascular technology.
- Graduate of a formal diagnostic medical sonography program or cardiovascular technology programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification preferred.
- RVT or RVS preferred.
- Must be bilingual English - Spanish.
- Active BLS certification.
- Associate degree preferred.Basic computer skills and proficiency in EMR.
Essential Functions:
- Able to service 20+ patient needs in one day.
- Able to communicate well with patients.
- Must be able to commute to multiple locations in the course of the working day/week, based on staffing needs.
- Positively serve as a resource to department staff as well as other members of the team as needed.
- Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time.
- Constantly positions self to address patient care needs.
- Frequently move equipment and lift appropriate weight up to 50 pounds.
- Help and position patients weighing up to 400 pounds.
