Job Summary
The Manager Advanced Echo Imaging is responsible for the daily operations and safe application of all Advanced Cardiac Ultrasound Technology systems at the NCH Healthcare System especially in the Outpatient Cardiac Imaging locations. This position is responsible for scheduling work assignments and coordinating equipment throughout the multiple locations. Acts as a liaison for patient care activities with outside departments. Observes staff, sets expectations, coaches, trains and counsels staff. Obtains and maintains adult echo and TEE accreditations. Advises staff and physicians in advance echo imaging technologies. Performs advanced cardiac imaging procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- Assigns equitable workload to all staff and ensures appropriate staffing and all locations including multiple out-patient sites.
- Hires, coaches, trains, and performs annual reviews/competency for advanced imaging echo staff.
- Assists director in establishing policies and procedures pertaining to advanced echo imaging.
- Assures timely accomplishment of assignments and ensures organizational objectives are met.
- Maintains standards of national accreditation with assistance of Lead Tech.
- Maintains IAC accreditation by updating application, communicating with IAC on standards, maintaining quarterly QI in TEE imaging, and completing all audits.
- Assists Lead Hospital Echo Technologist and Director in quarterly QI meetings and all echo staff competencies.
- Maintains all quarterly QI for the echo department and submits to director for review prior to quarterly meeting.
- Provides clinical and technical support to staff in conjunction with director.
- Provides high level knowledge of transesophageal echocardiography, general cardiac anatomy, and pathology.
- Demonstrates competence in general imaging cardiac structures and demonstration/grading of pathology.
- Performs all critical care requests within department time guidelines.
- Demonstrates competence in advanced adult echo imaging and pathology.
- Facilitates QI and technical training with staff and physicians for advanced imaging modalities.
- Consults with physicians on advanced echo imaging anatomy, findings, and clinical/technical variables.
- Evaluated left ventricular strain, acquires and processes left ventricular 3D data sets detailing specific anatomical orientation.
- Utilizes mitral valve navigator or similar software technologies to analyze surgical views of the mitral valve for pathology and intervention type.
- Communicate to physicians to ensure clinical emergencies are addressed in an appropriate time frame.
- Coordinates training and competency for diagnostic Mitral Valve Clip program.
- Assures patient service recovery and communicates directly with patients regarding their satisfaction, comfort, and suggestions for improvement.
- Attends meetings including Structural Heart and Cardiac Imaging meetings.
- Coordinates, with director, staff training in evolving advanced imaging techniques.
- Works with director to assure equipment maintenance, software upgrades and purchase, proper supplies.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
- Minimum of Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree required within 2 years of obtaining position.
- Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound program.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a hospital-based Echo Technologist required.
- Must have experience with advanced cardiac imaging.
- Experience in structural heart/intra-op imaging.
- Expert knowledge of TEE scope processing system.
- Must have strong organizational, communication and technical skills.
- Must understand national accreditation requirements and QI requirements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Registered with ARDMS or CCI accrediting bodies.
- Member of American Society of Echocardiography required.
- Must be trained and able to perform RV 3D acquisition and post processing within 12 months in position.
- Must be trained and able to perform LA 3D acquisition and post processing within 12 months in position.
- Must be trained and able to perform strain analysis on LA, and RV within 12 months in position.
- Must be trained and able to perform 3D TEEs for mitral valve acquisition and post processing within 12 months in position.
- Must be trained and able to perform 3D TEE on intra atrial septum for septal occlusion sizing within 12 months in position.
- Able to work occasional weekends if necessary.
