Position Summary:
The Echocardiographer Technologist performs diagnostic cardiovascular ultrasound with documentation of anatomic measurements for normal, abnormal or suspicious anatomy. Performs various cardiac and vascular testing, including stress echo, TEE, ultrasound studies. Provides excellent patient care while demonstrating exemplary core customer service skills. Completes accurate documentation of patient medical records. Assigned home facility but covers and floats to Tidelands Health sites as necessary. Serves on-call rotation and responds within 60 minutes to facility to meet patient service needs. Completes other duties as assigned.
Essential Function:
- Operate ultrasound equipment utilizing a variety of possible techniques to include Echocardiograms, Stress Echocardiograms, Trans-Espohageal echocardiograms, image enhanced echocardiograms, Intra-Cardiac echocardiography, pre/intra/post cardiac procedures.
- Adjust image quality and adjust equipment parameters/settings to obtain optimal diagnostic results.
- Perform exams recognizing the significance of all structures visualized and the ability to differentiate artifact from appropriate images while recognizing limitations of equipment; demonstrating advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease; demonstrate flexibility performing scans in different environments.
- Educate patients and families of safe and appropriate testing; thoroughly explaining procedures, answering questions, and calming concerns
- Demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency in ordered procedures, schedule flexibility, and electronic medical records
- Utilize API electronic functions to assist with departmental timekeeping accuracy.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School diploma required.
- Certificate from an Ultrasonography Program, Vascular Credential (RDCS/RCS) required.
Experience:
- Prior ECHO sonography experience, required.
- Minimum of two years on the job training with demonstrated competency required.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required OR
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of scanning techniques required.
- Knowledge of Normal and Abnormal Anatomy, required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
