Responsible for performing echocardiography exams. Performs other diagnostic procedures dependent upon registration/certification.
Reports to: Director Diagnostic Services and Imaging Supervisor
Reviews patient history and physician orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment & exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.

Receives patients, explains method of procedure and makes sure patient is comfortable.

Provides patient services to all ages using imaging modalities.

Operates echocardiography equipment to perform clinical diagnostic exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices.

Maintains equipment and supplies and organizes work area.

Keeps accurate records, helps with scheduling of the ultrasound and keeps patient flow smooth.
Minimum Education
Graduate from echocardiography program or ultrasound program with echocardiography cross-training - Required

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be obtained within 90 days of employment, if not current upon hire.

Must be registered or registry eligible (registered within 1 year of employment or cross-training); Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT) certification.

Minimum Work Experience
One year experience in echocardiography - Preferred Cardiac structure and arrhythmia recognition required.
